Marcella Margaret Johnson, age 85, died of cancer on January 26, 2011 at Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City.
She was born July 30, 1925 in Newport, Minnesota to Godfrey and Mary Fritz; the second of six children. Her family moved to a farm in Hinckley, MN in 1937.
Growing up, Marcy spent a great deal of time doing chores, including driving a tractor during the harvest season.
Despite her responsibilities at home, she was a dedicated student, graduating as valedictorian of the Hinckley High School Class of 1943. During her senior year, she was chosen Homecoming Queen.
After high school, Marcy was employed at the Hinckley Bank, where she advanced to the position of head teller.
In 1952 she married Marshall Johnson and together they operated the State Farm Insurance Agency in Pine City for over 30 years.
After their retirement, she and Marsh vacationed in Fort Myers, Florida for several months each winter. She also volunteered at the Pine City Senior Citizens Center for 25 years, until her illness make it impossible for her to continue.
Marcy will be remembered as a devoted and unconditionally supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, neighbor and Minnesota Twins fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother, Bernard, and her husband.
She is survived by her daughter Carmen (Dan) Bayliss; son Brad Johnson; son Spencer (Amy Lynch) Johnson; and grandchildren Jasper, Ivy and Violet. Other survivors include her sisters Maxine Davidson; Carolyn (Jack) Nieboer; Virginia (Jerry) White; her brother Bud Fritz; and many nephews and nieces.
In accordance with her wishes, no services were held. Announcement of a memorial luncheon will be made at a later date.”
