Louis Perreault was born June 8, 1916 to Aurora and Joseph Perreault of Crookston, Minnesota. Growing up, Louie was fluent in French and went to school until the seventh grade. He then went to work on the family farm. At 18, Louie went to work at a lumber camp in Effie, Minnesota working from November 15th to March 15th. He did this for the winters of 1934-36. During the rest of the year Louie would help on the farm.
In the fall of 1937, Louie met Rose Noesen and six months later on February 21, 1938, they were married at 9:00 A. M. at the Cathedral in Crookston, Minnesota.
They began their life together in Crookston where they farmed and started their family. In May of 1949, they moved to rush City, Minnesota and purchased the Aladdin Theater.
They ran the movie theatre for several years and eventually closed it and made it into their home. The St. Paul Pioneer Press, heard of the theatre’s closing and ran a touching article about “A small town families’ hard work”.
In 1952, Louie started working for the fuller Brush Company; selling household products door-to-door. Life was busy around the Perreault home with 10 boys and 5 girls, yet Rose and Louie still found time to enjoy many camping and fishing trips with family and friends. In their later years, they packed up their motor home and traveled out west during the Minnesota winters. Eventually, they opted to stay in Rush City during winter and enjoy the comforts of their own home.
In 1988, Louie was honored as the Rush City outstanding citizen of the year! A very nice tribute which showed the respect Louie had in this community. In February of 2003, Louie and Rose were honored as the “longest married couple” in the Sacred Heart parish of Rush City; 65 years and going strong! There was a very nice celebration in Wey Hall at Sacred Heart Catholic Church after Mass.
Throughout his years in Rush City, Louie was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, continued to sell Fuller Brush products until his late 80’s, enjoyed the annual Perreault Family Christmas party, trips to the Casino, continued to garden well into his 90’s and still enjoyed telling his “oh so famous” fish stories!
