Elizabeth "Betty" Margaret Prahl

Elizabeth “Betty” Margaret Prahl was born December 16, 1924 to William and Lillian (Spinler) Kabage in Blufton, Minnesota in Otter Tail County. She grew up on the family farm near Hinckley, Minnesota, received her initial education in a one-room rural school, and graduated from Hinckley High School. During the years of the Great Depression the whole family worked hard to make ends meet. They picked and sold strawberries from their berry patch, sometimes keeping enough to enjoy with their own homemade ice cream. Their Model A Ford Roadster was used to deliver milk in cans to the local creamery, and as a young adult Betty purchased her own Ford. Later she would also have her own John Deere tractor and discover the joy of riding 4-wheelers as well. Betty had a talent for fixing things and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting items as gifts for her family and friends. Her green thumb was evident in the produce her garden provided, even though she fought a constant battle with the rabbits, deer and raccoons. She loved dancing, fishing, and traveling, enjoying trips to Mexico and Hawaii. Betty was a people person and enjoyed being with her family and friends. She liked to play cards, have lunch out, or spend time with her family at the cabin in McGregor. She kept in touch with family members via weekly letters and phone calls. Her grandchildren were exceptionally special to her and she enjoyed them very much. Betty died February 18, 2011 at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin, Minnesota having reached the age of 86 years. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kitty Jane & Ronald Adams of McGregor, MN; son-in-law: Vincent Glidden of Braham, MN; grandchildren: Lori (Jeff) Javes of Columbia Heights, MN, Toivo (Karen) Glidden of Kansas City, MO, Mark (Kim) Adams of Bayport, MN, and Celestine Glidden of Grasston, MN; great grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Nikayla Glidden, Ciara and Marissa Adams, Ronald, Alicia, and Samantha Javes; brothers: Walter Kubesh of Hinckley and Ted (Gloria) Kubesh of Minneapolis, MN; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillian Kabage, stepfather Fred Kubesh, husband Oscar Prahl, daughter Beverly Glidden, sisters Jenny Aman and Hazel Grundberg, and her brother Bud Kubesh. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Henriette Community Church in Henriette, Minnesota with Pastor Dave Dwyer officiating. Music was provided by Marie Grundberg and Judy Dwyer. Honorary casket bearers were Bruce Kubesh, Mike Kubesh, and Douglas Kubesh. Casket bearers were Jeff Javes, Toivo Glidden, Vince Glidden, Tom Spencer, Mark Adams, and Kermit Grundberg. Interment was in the Grasston Union Cemetery in Grasston, Minnesota.
