Mr. Melvin Emerson of Harris; died Tuesday (3/8/11) at his home in Harris at the age of 69.
Melvin Floyd Emerson was born April 6, 1941 in St. Paul to Alma Sophia and Chester Duane Claire Emerson. He graduated from Monroe High School. He was active in the Army from 1961 – 1964 where he was stationed in Berlin, Germany. Mel married the love of his life Sharon Lostrom on December 5, 1964. Together they had daughter Teri and son Craig. They made their home in St. Paul, Scandia and Harris. Mel was an avid sportsman, outdoorsman and most of all a family man. His life centered around his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them the secrets of life. Mel enjoyed being on the water, fishing, hunting, camping, boating, cutting and splitting wood, etc…basically anything that kept him outside. He will be dearly missed by everyone.
Mel Emerson is survived by his wife of 46 years; Sharon, daughter Teri (John) Hable of Pine City, MN, son Craig Emerson of Sandstone, MN, grandchildren Logan Hable and Hannah Emerson, mother-in-law Lillian Hedman of St. Paul, MN, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents Chet and Alma (Olson) Emerson, his brother Henry Olson and father-in-law Roy Hedman.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City with Pastor Vicki VanderVegt officiating. Music was provided by Doug Berglund. Military Honors were provided by the Heath-Perkins American Legion Post # 51 of Pine City, MN.
