Mary Elizabeth Tacheny passed away on Sunday, March 27th at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota at the age of 78.Mary was born on February 7th, 1933 to Donald and Irene (Walton) Alguire in Rock Creek, Minnesota. She was given the nickname "Betty" which became the name most people knew her by. Betty attended school in Rock Creek, Minnesota and graduated from Pine City High School in 1951. She married Arthur R. Tacheny on June 25, 1955. They purchased their farm east of Rush City in June of 1959. Betty lived the rest of her life on that farm, raising her six children while working various jobs.Betty enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader, and had many hobbies including crocheting and quilting. She loved her family and had many family gatherings at her home throughout the years.Betty is survived by her husband Art, their children Diane (Arlie) Hagman of Rush City, Randy (Marjorie) Tacheny of Milltown, Wisconsin, Chris Tacheny of South St. Paul, Aileen (Harlan) Schwantke of Brook Park, Mn., Carolyn (Gary) Antrobus of Pine City, and Bill (Dawna) Tacheny of Rush City, Pam McGuire of Florida as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Carol (Bob) Benson of Pine City, aunts Barb Walton and Donna Walton, special friend Gail McGuire and Dolly her loyal companion.Betty was preceded in death by her parents Donald & Irene Alguire, brothers Don "Bub" Alguire and Gerry Alguire and a grandson Allen Lee Hagman.Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 1 at Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. A memorial visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. A spring inurnment is planned for Rock Creek Cemetery.
