Gerry was born in Pepin,WI on October 4, 1939. He passed away peacefully on May 8, 2011 at the age of 71. He grew up in Fountain City, WI and attended high school there where he was known as "Shayboy". After high school he joined the Army and was stationed for a year in Alaska, which he often described as the most beautiful place he had ever been. In 1963 he met the love of his life Ardeth and after a brief courtship he proposed on Christmas Eve. Six months later they were wed.
Gerry worked for 3M for 26 years where he won many awards and was credited for several patents for his innovative ideas. He then retired to his "paradise" in Pine City to pursue his love of the outdoors, art, friends and most of all family.
He was very proud to have donated one of his carvings to be raffled off for charity and to have assisted the Pine County Sheriff's Office in a river rescue with a hovercraft he designed and built. But of all things, he was most proud of his family. He cherished traveling with his wife, hunting with his son and grandsons, time spent with his daughters and granddaughters and big family celebrations. He was always happiest when he could share his paradise with the ones he loved.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Ardeth, daughter Sandra (Ryan) Nichols, son Michael Glomski, daughter Suzanne (Dennis) Stickles and grandchildren Caitlin, Erinn, Alexis, Brianna, Jacob, Maxwell, Brandon, Brady and Ellaina.
He touched the lives of so many. He was a loving husband, caring father and doting grandfather. He was a true friend, an animal lover, a creator, a photographer, an artist and a willing mentor. We will always cherish his warm smile, his caring heart and his strong spirit.
Pastor Brenda Wicklund will officiate at a memorial service; 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. A time of visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements for Mr. Gerry Glomski of Pine City are entrusted to the Funeral & Cremation Service of Pine City - Swanson Chapel.
