James Wybren DeVore was born in Northfield MN, on July 27, 1949, to John and Dena (Bliss) DeVore. Jim graduated from Nevis High School in 1967 and later enlisted in the United States Navy. During his period of service to the United States, Jim was deployed to Vietnam where he was assigned to the Seabees. While serving overseas, Jim learned the trade he would work in the rest of his career- construction. Shortly after his release from active duty, Jim returned to Minnesota and met the love of his life, Margaret Qualley.
Jim and Margie married on May 12, 1973, in Lake Itasca, MN. They welcomed their first daughter, Heather in 1975, followed by Becky in 1978. Their family was made complete in 1982 with the birth of their son, Bradley. Jim and Margie made their home in Eden Prairie, MN until 1993, when they purchased property and built a home in Rush City. This home was designed and built by Jim, a talented craftsman and member of The Carpenters and Joiners Union. On May 28, 1998, Jim lost Margie after a courageous battle with cancer.
During his lifetime, Jim was proudly called Papa by four grandchildren: Cassandra, Sage, Noah, and Ryan. His passion for being a grandfather was just one of the many he had in his lifetime. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, bee keeping, golfing, traveling, wine making, playing cards, watching Minnesota sports teams, gardening, and music. He was a member of the Rush City Lions International and the Grothe-Jacobson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 6692.
