Dale Wesley Hegge Sr. passed away unexpectedly of natural causes due to diabetes and heart disease on April 30, 2011 in his home in rural Braham, Minnesota. A memorial service was held on Friday, May 6, 2011 at Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown, South Dakota. Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown with military honors by the American Legion Post 17 Codington County.
Dale Sr. was born March 14, 1939 in Menno, South Dakota, and was the second son of Alvin and Leona Hegge. He grew up on a farm north of Tinkertown near Henry, South Dakota. He attended country school for eight years before going to Henry High School.
Dale Sr. enlisted in the Navy in 1957. After his naval service, he worked in fuel transportation and was a truck driver for a few years. Dale married in January 1962 and then purchased a 40 acre farm and started a landscaping business in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. After an unfortunate fire claimed the farmstead, Dale Sr. purchased some rental properties in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Later, he sold the rental property business and started his “Dale Does It” business in Galveston, Texas. After Galveston, Texas, he bought a resort in Sisseton, South Dakota. He later sold the resort and moved to Braham, Minnesota and began a scrapping business.
Dale Sr. loved to get a good deal. His passions were farming, pheasant hunting and going to auctions. He also enjoyed tractor pulls and collecting tractors.
Dale Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Leona (Dickman) Hegge.
He is survived by his children, Mike (Tami Reynolds) Hegge of Webster, WI; Brian Hegge of Webster, WI, Dale Jr. (Amy) Hegge of New Richmond, WI, Raelene (David) Marquez of Wabasha, MN and Todd Phipps of Lancaster, CA; five grand-children and two great grandchildren; his former wife, Barbara (Jim) Peterson of New Richmond, WI; his brothers, Clyde Hegge of Watertown, SD, James (Eileen) Hegge of Big Lake, MN, and his sisters Judy (Milton) Cordell of Watertown, SD and Gloria Hardy of Sioux Falls, SD.
