Bob was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and grew up on the east-side of the city. In 1943, at the age of sixteen, he attended St. Paul Technical School to learn the trade of watch-making. In May 1951, he married Marjorie Anne Beane, and they moved to Pine City in 1955. There he started his own jewelry and watch repair store. After attending night school, he began working with Rosemount Engineering. However, his dream had always been to own and operate his own resort. His dream was realized in 1975 when he purchased the Van Cleve Resort in Northwestern Minnesota. The resort was under his care until 1995 when he moved back to St. Paul to restore his parents’ family home. He moved back to the Pine City area to live with his daughter in 2007 and remained in her home until he passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday night. Bob loved spending time in the outdoors- he had a passion for both hunting and fishing. He also loved remodeling and handiwork. He restored one cabin on Cross Lake and some others near his resort on Jessie Lake.
