Leona Ruth Suko, age 93,of Woodbury, Minnesota, formerly of Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away on June 11, 2011.
Leona was a loving wife of 67 years, mother, and grandmother. She had many passions in life including fishing, gardening, playing cards, Bingo, crocheting, reading, and cooking. Leona and John loved to travel. Every summer they took a family vacation. They also toured Switzerland, Alaska, and went on numerous Amtrak train trips around the United States.
She was a member of the Woodbury United Methodist Church, a longtime member of the Jamestown Evangelical United Methodist Church, and a life member of both the VFW Auxillary and American Legion Auxillary. Leona was a Jamestown election clerk and she volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years.
Leona is survived by her 3 children: Dennis (Sharon) Suko of Mesa, AZ, Jennifer
Suko-Miner of Bradenton, FL, and Bill (Pauline) Suko of Grasston, MN; 7 grandchildren: Michael Suko, Beth (Darryl) Kennedy, Brian (Wendy) Miner, Shannon (Michael) Ohland, Patrick (Molly) Suko, Donovan Suko, and Peter (Kristine) Suko; 9 great grandchildren; Extended family Richard (Dorie) Sorenson of Beulah, North Dakota; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wilhelm and Wilhelmina (Brosz) Reister, husband John Suko and eleven siblings
A family celebration of life service was held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City, Minnesota officiated by Chaplain Kris Linner. A family committal service was held at the Woodbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Woodbury, Minnesota on June 17, 2011.
