Donald Oliver Lende passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 4, 2011 with family at his bedside.
He was born to Thorvald and Hilda Lende of Cooperstown, ND. Donald began his life in North Dakota, spending most of his younger years as the owner of several businesses in Walum, ND including June's Cafe and Don's Texaco. He also had an implement dealership. He was known to his friends and customers as "Honest Don". In later years he moved to Forest Lake, MN until his health required him to go to a nursing home. He was known at all the flea markets as "the trapper".He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters, and granddaughter Tina Lende Halle. He is survived by sister Beatrice Fogderud of Jamestown ND. He married June Fogderud in June of 1945. He is survived by six sons: Donald (Milyn) of the Philippines, Dean (Mardell) of Montana, Dale (Cheryl) of Jamestown, ND, Roger (Dawn) of Carrington, ND, Clinton (Nancy) of Fargo, ND, and John (Andrea) of Colorado, and three daughters: Donna (John) Bays of Indiana, Julie of Jamestown, ND, and Janelle of Colorado. He has 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his long time companion, Pat Mathews. He is also survived by two step-children Scott Mathews and Sue (Nick) Masterjohn. He was in the Marines in WWII and was active in the American Legion and the VFW. He was always proud to be a Marine and an American. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Pastors David Fogderud and David Werner will officiate at funeral services Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. @ the Forest Hills United Methodist Church of Forest Lake with a time of visitation one hour prior at the church.
Interment will be in the South Green Lake Cemetery of Chisago City, MN.
