Margaret Caroline Wicklund

August 7, 1921 — August 6, 2011

Margaret Caroline Wicklund was born on August 7, 1921 at her parents’ farmhouse seven miles east of Pine City, Minnesota. Her parents were Norbert and Rose (Pocta) Skluzacek. She first attended school when she was 5 years old at Pleasant Prairie School, District 28, in Rock Creek, Minnesota. She told of always having to ask her cousins what the teacher had said, as in her home only the Bohemian language was spoken and she did not understand any English. Thus, she learned the English language in this manner. She graduated from Pine City High School in 1939. On October 5, 1940, Margaret married Kenneth Moe and they made their home in Rock Creek, Minnesota. Five children were born to Kenneth and Margaret. She helped her husband on the farm in many ways and took pride in sewing clothes for her children and caring for her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed cooking and anyone who ever sat at her table would agree that her meals were five-star! Reading was also an important part of her life and she always enjoyed going to the library. In December of 1963, Margaret’s husband Kenneth passed away. In 1965 on August 28, she married Clarence Wicklund of Hinckley, Minnesota. They built a new house in Hinckley; putting in many enjoyable hours planning this house. She continued her cooking, sewing, and gardening hobbies and also enjoyed antiquing with her husband, Clarence. They enjoyed traveling and would often come home with many antique purchases from around the U.S.. In 1997 Margaret’s husband, Clarence, passed away. In her later years, she especially enjoyed coffee times with her women friends that called themselves the “Widows Club.” These friends were near and dear to her heart. Over the years, Margaret had been employed at the Nicoll’s Café, the hospital in Grantsburg, WI and the high school cafeteria in Hinckley. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hinckley. She was also a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She was never the president of any important club or organization, but she was always there for her family with good solid advice and support . She also was an example to them of the best work ethics that could be found. She entered the Lakeside Nursing Home in Pine City in 2007. Margaret passed away very peacefully on August 6 , 2011, at the age of 89 at Fairview Hospital in Wyoming, MN, surrounded by loved ones. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday the following day, but instead chose to celebrate with Jesus and the loved ones she was looking forward to seeing again! Margaret was preceded in death by her two husbands Kenneth Moe and Clarence Wicklund; also, her parents Norbert and Rose Skluzacek, two sisters Lillian and Marcella, one son Wayne, one daughter-in-law Brook, and two grandchildren, Beth Cully and Michael Kenneth Moe. Margaret is survived by her daughters Sandra Cully and husband Pete, Carrie Norton and husband Don, Wendy Kroschel and husband Greg, daughter-in-law Ginny Moe, one son Dennis, and one stepson Mark and wife Darlene. Also, 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, two sisters in-law, and two brothers in law, and many nieces and nephews.
