Janice Schwartzwald

December 13, 1922 — September 28, 2011

Janice Caroline Schwartzwald, the daughter of Gustav and Mathilda (Braun) Schwartzwald, was born at Pine City, Minnesota on December 13, 1922.  She died September 28, 2011 at the Margaret S. Parmely Residence in Chisago City, Minnesota, having reached the age of 88 years. Janie, as she was known to her family and friends, attended rural school #69, graduated Pine City High School, and later attended Minnesota Business College.  Moving to California in 1941, Janie was employed as an administrative assistant in Beverly Hills and was office manager of Interior Design.  She also free lanced as secretary to Kirk Douglas, Sterling Hayden, and worked as secretary to several California attorneys. In 1959 Janie married Ted Bazett, an aeronautical engineer from Canada.  Following their divorce in 1963, Janie went on to become a dance instructor with Arthur Murray Studios.  She loved California and continued with her education there.  She learned to speak Spanish and French, but always enjoyed the heritage of her family and spoke fluent German. Although she had many interests in life, Janie’s one passion was health care.  She often tried to find solutions to other people’s health issues.  She researched holistic health, taught Yoga, and was always amazed with reflexology, acupuncture, and acupressure. She loved the four seasons of Minnesota and spent much time traveling between her home state and her adopted state of California.  She was very involved in the care of her parents during their final days, as she had been even while living away from the Pine City area.  All who knew Janie will remember her quick step and smile.  Janie is survived by her sister, Lucille Tobeck of California; sisters-in-law:  Evelyn Schwartzwald of Pine City and Hazel Schwartzwald of Alexandria, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Mathilda Schwartzwald, sisters Adeline Nordstrom and Esther Trenda, and her brothers Walter, Clarence, Oscar, and Edmund Schwartzwald.  Funeral services will be at  11 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Pine City with the Reverend Glen Kleppe officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.  Interment will be at the Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City.   Arrangements are entrusted to the  Funeral & Cremation Service, Swanson Chapel, Pine City, Minnesota.
