Robert Henry Rasmussen, of Rock Creek, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was 84 years old.
Bob was born on November 24, 1926 in Rock Creek, Minnesota to parents Jorgen and Marie (Mikkelsen) Rasmussen. Born the third of five children, Bob attend District 15 country school in rural Pine City. He left school in the 8th grade to help his parents on the family farm. In his late 20’s Bob spent a memorable summer working for the Railroad laying track, while keeping up the farm chores. Bob took over the farm from his parents and continued to milk cows and raise crops until he sold the farm in the early 1980’s. He moved to a house in Rock Creek and lived there until 1992, when along with help from this nephew Larry, he built a smaller house, just down the road, where he resided until his death.
After his mother’s death in 1985, Bob was encouraged by his family and friends to spend the winter months in Arizona. For the next 22 years, Bob wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona at the Palms Mobile Park; where he loved to play Pool, Shuffleboard, and Cards with his friends. Everywhere he went he had several scheduled nights of card playing. His favorite games were 500 and Scratch.
Bob’s favorite past times were attending farm auctions, threshing shows and swap meets while, scouting for a special part needed for his current restoration project. Bob spent many years restoring Model T Fords and various tractors, although he loved Farmall’s.
Bob will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, sister Lillian (Walfred) Dahlstrom, brother Ted (Anna and Marlys) Rasmussen, brother-in-law Robert Clark Raudabaugh, nephew Larry Raudabaugh, and great niece Nicole Richards.
He is survived by his sisters Sylvia Raudabaugh of Pine City and Marge (Ron ”Zig”) Carlson of Sauk Centre; nieces and nephews Linda (Frank) Libra of Hinckley, Barbara Raudabaugh of Pine City, Lee (Bev) Raudabaugh of Pine City; Cindy Carlson (Lane Phillips) of St. Paul, Brian Carlson of Oakdale, Scott Carlson of St. Paul, Merle (Phyllis) Dahlstrom of Cambridge, Duane (Connie) Dahlstrom of Rock Creek, and LaDez (Glenn) Mell of Harris; great nieces and nephews; Kerry (Denny) Post, Krista (Roy) Matson, Lucas (Carey) Raudabaugh, Nick Raudabaugh (Vanessa Harder), Katy Tester (Matt Hamilton), Amy Raudabaugh, Shelly (Paul) Bilotta, Mike (Betsy) Dahlstrom, Erin (Gary) Luke, John Dahlstrom, Anita (Bob) Janssen, and Craig (Amy) Mell; great-great nieces and nephews, Ethan and Kayla Dummann, Nathan Post, Trent Raudabaugh, Levi Matson, Landon Raudabaugh, Courtney, Samantha, and Gabriel Bilotta, Lauren, Laney, and Will Dahlstrom, Madison and Sean Luke, Erik and Jessica Dahlstrom, Ryan Lind, Alissa and Shawna Mell. Many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel of Pine City with Rev. Bob DeYoung presiding. A time of visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Honorary Urn bearer is Bob Barton. A private inurnment will be at the Brichwood Cemetery of Pine City.
