Roberta Ellen Kadoun, the daughter of George and Louise (Marple) Gregory, was born July 31, 1916 in Ortonville, South Dakota. Her father's desire was to get off the Dakota prairies, and it was not long before he moved his family to Duluth, Minnesota where he began working in the steel mills.
Roberta and her brothers grew up in Morgan Park, homes that were rented to workers but owned by steel man, J. P. Morgan. Although they did not own their homes, there was still a feeling of affluence due to the fact they had their own swimming pools, tennis courts, and several other opportunities that others did not. Following her graduation from high school, Roberta went on to attend college and received her degree in elementary education.
Roberta married Charles Kadoun and they made their home in Fridley, Minnesota. While living there Roberta taught first, second, and fourth grades in the Fridley school system.
It was during those years they built a home on Rush Lake near Rush City, Minnesota, that they used as their weekend retreat. Following their retirement in the early 1970's, it became their primary residence.
Charles passed away in 1987, and Roberta continued to live in their home on Rush Lake. She enjoyed friends and worked in various capacities with the Senior Citizens of Chisago County, coordinating dances and events in North Branch. She was an active member of the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post #6692 Auxiliary. In the early 1990’s she sold her home on Rush Lake and moved to Rush Estates II, then to Suite Living in North Branch, Minnesota where she passed away October 19, 2011 at the age of 95 years.
Roberta is survived by her grandson: David Kadoun of St. Paul, daughter-in-law, Nancy Kadoun of St. Paul, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Louise Gregory, her husband Charles, her son Chuck, sisters Eithel Sever, Bess Monsour and brothers George Harley Gregory and James Merton Gregory.
