Jean was born on a snowy night in Massachusetts on Feb. 20, 1921, to Edith and Harold Sweeley. Jean grew up and attended school there. Just before Jean was to graduate, she married Mr. Taylor. To this marriage was born a daughter, Jean. It was a few years later that they divorced. In 1941 she met and married Jack Lauterborn, and from this marriage two children were born. The first was a son Allan in 1942 and a daughter Melody in 1945.
They moved from Massachusetts in 1946, to Cresco Pennsylvania, to be closer to Jack's family. Then in 1950, they moved from Pennsylvania to Brooklyn, New York in hopes of finding a better job. They lived in Brooklyn, New York until 1960 when Jack finished Radio School. He received a job offer to work part time at a radio station in Owatonna MN. They moved to New Brighton, Minnesota and both found jobs. Jean worked at Kedges, and Jack worked for S&L stores and on the weekends worked on the radio. Later, Jean found a job with an employment Agency. In 1961, they got a divorce and Jean met and married Richard Estrem.
Jean and Richard married in 1962 and moved to Minneapolis, MN. At that time Jean started working at Blue and White Cab Company, as a dispatcher. In 1967 Richard and Jean moved to St Petersburg Florida. It was then that Jean went to nursing school, in North Carolina. When she graduated from nursing school, she came back to St Petersburg, and started her nursing career. She worked at Bay Front Medical Center as an LPN, and also worked at some nursing homes and personal care.
When Jean retired, she went to New Hampshire to live with her daughter Jean, to help her with the motel she had purchased. In 1979, Jean came out to Minnesota to visit with her family and decided to stay. She moved into Rush Oaks apartments in Rush City, MN, where she lived for a number of years. Richard had stayed in Florida, but finally decided to return to Minnesota, to live with Jean. They lived together at the Rush Oaks apartments, until Jean got sick and had to go to Lakeside Nursing Home in Pine City. Jean lived there until she got well enough to come home to Rush Oaks. She was only there for a short time before more health problems caused a move to the Villages of North Branch. For the last six years at the Villages, Jean fought to gain back her health, but in the end the cancer took her.
Jean was preceded in death by parents Harold and Edith Sweeley, many aunts, uncles, also two of her husbands, and her dear Eric who left this world just two days before Jean. She is survived by her husband Richard Estrem, her son Al Lauterborn, his wife JoAnn of Suring, WI. Al’s three children (her grandchildren) Jack, Jill, and Bonnie Lauterborn. Her great grandchildren Drew and Madison. Her daughter Jean Taylor and granddaughter Andrea.
