Glenn Johnson, Age 91, of Pine City died January 18th at Pine Medical Health Care Center in Sandstone.
Glenn Johnson was born February 9, 1920 in Hinckley, Minnesota to Julius “Jupe” and Velda (Lynch) Johnson. He grew up in Hinckley and graduated from Hinckley public schools.
Glenn farmed until 1941, when he joined the US Army. He served in Company A 423rd Infantry during World War II in France and throughout Central Europe. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
After the war, Glenn became a local businessman in Hinckley. Glenn married Joyce Kalsbeck in 1946. They later divorced. In 1969, Glenn moved to Pine City. He married Neva Yost in 1971. Glenn managed the Red Shed from 1969-1972 and the American Legion from 1972-1982.
Glenn enjoyed the outdoors. Every year the family would take a vacation and go camping. He loved to fish, especially at Tang of the North Lodge in Ontario, Canada. He loved to hunt deer, elk, and pheasant on his trips to Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and South Dakota.
Glenn is survived by his children: Darrel Johnson and his wife Mary Ann of Round Rock, Texas; Brenda Vohs and her husband Dave of Hinckley; Gregg Johnson and his wife Nancy of Hinckley; Scott Johnson of Pine City; and Gene Johnson and his wife Beth of Hinckley; daughter-in-law Deb Johnson of Hinckley; 7 grandchildren: Shane Johnson, Todd (Tia) Ziegler, Angel Johnson, Adam Vohs, Dana (Shaun) Sappala, Tyler Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; 3 great-grandchildren.
Glenn is preceded in death by his wife Neva, parents Jupe & Velda Johnson, son Lynn Johnson, grandson Mark Ziegler, brothers Marshall and Floyd “Bibs” Johnson, and sister Lorraine “Tee” Moran.
Reverend Vicki Vander Vegt will officiate memorial services at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday January 21st at Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date.
