Jigger was born March 31, 1938 to Chester and Violet (Brogren) Cornelius in Chengwatana Township, Pine City MN. He passed away at Fairview Lakes Hospital in Wyoming, Minnesota after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the age of 73.
He attended country school district 73, through the eighth grade. He graduated from Pine City High School in 1956. He worked in Minneapolis at Precision Industries. He also drove truck for Johnson Brothers, Pavek Brothers and the State of Minnesota Highway Department in Pine City.
From 1974 to 1977 he was owner/operator of Jigger’s Amoco (formerly Johnson’s Standard Oil). After selling that station, Jigger went to work for Hopkin’s Sand and Gravel. He worked there until retirement in 2001. After he retired, he worked part time for Stransky Construction. Jigger was a member of the National Guard from 1955-1964.
In 1969 he married Lois Marie Houde at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City and with their son Scott, they lived in Pine City for 10 years. In 1979, Jigger moved his family north of Pine City to their current home where he lived until his death.
Jigger was an active member of his community. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Hinckley – Pine City Flames Snowmobile Club, Pine Riders ATV Club as well as an active member and served one term as president and was on the Board of Directors several times of the Pine City Lions Club for over 35 years. He was also a member of the Hustletown Cemetery Board and was president at the time of his death. Jigger was a very proud grandpa who spent a lot of time doing things with his grandchildren and being involved with their activities. Jigger was an avid fisherman and hunter, going to Canada fishing many times. He also enjoyed camping, four wheeling, motorcycling, gardening, taking care of his large yard, dancing and playing cards. Jigger and Lois liked to travel, especially to Alaska which they visited four times. They also went to Texas, snowmobiling in Yellowstone, deer hunting in Wyoming, Disney World in Florida and several trips to Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife Lois, son Scott Cornelius and his wife Hiedi of Pine City, grandchildren Jacob Cornelius and Molly Cornelius, both of Pine City, brother John Cornelius and his wife Karen of Florida, uncles Les Brogren of Dayton, MN., and Calvin Cornelius of New Mexico, aunt Norma Brogren of Pine City and brother-in-law Leon Houde of Arizona. He is also survived by several cousins, neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Violet Cornelius.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15th at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Pine City. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:30 p.m. also at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and 1 hour prior to the church service on Wednesday.
A spring inurnment is planned for Hustletown Union Cemetery.
