JoAnne Sue Youkon; formerly of Westchester Apts. in Pine City; died Wednesday (5/16/12) at the Burnett County Continuing Care Center in Grantsburg, Wisconsin at the age of 66 years. Joanne passed away after a long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
JoAnne was born to George Daniel Hill & Florence Mae Hill (Breeding) on May 6, 1946, in Elgin, Illinois at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
JoAnne’s favorite past time was reading and bragging up her 11 grandchildren. She loved visiting with her family and friends, of which she made many. She loved to laugh and had a nickname for everyone.
JoAnne fought hard and lived life to the fullest. Her family is grateful to the staff at Burnett Medical Center Continuing Care Center for taking care of her to the end with dignity and compassion. To the hospice nurses who gave her the extra TLC at the end. A big thank you as well, to the ALS Society of Minnesota for helping and checking in on her now and again. It was appreciated.
JoAnne is survived by her son Glen Rike and his wife Brenda of Pine City, step-sons: Robert Youkon and his wife Angie of Richmond, Indiana, John Youkon and his wife Keri of Vancouver Washington; grandchildren: Sherry, Ruth, Katherine, Joshua, and Daniel Rike, Dorian Gordon, Chrissy, Seth, John Jr., Brayden, and Adam Youkon; good friend Sharon Rike and family; many nieces nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents George & Florence Hill, her husband Bob Youkon, and her brothers Gordon & Jeffrey Hill.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 25, 2012 at 3:00 PM with a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City.
