Mrs. Linnea Erickson of Cambridge died Wednesday (5/30/2012) at Grace Pointe Crossing Gables East in Cambridge at the age of 95 years. Linnea Sophia Erickson was born May 13, 1917 to Alfred and Gjerda Nelson Johnson at their rural Rush Point home, the oldest of 5 children. She was baptized, confirmed, and a life long member at Calvary Lutheran Church, Rush Point. Linnea attended the Moody School, District 24, at Rush Point through 8 grades. Being the oldest she needed to leave school to help with work at home including fieldwork, milking cows, yard and garden work, preserving all the produce, and housework. She worked hard all her life. Linnea worked at the Rush City Creamery as well as several grocery stores in Rush City and Cambridge. On September 24, 1949 Linnea married Martin Erickson. For a time they lived in Everett, Washington but eventually returned to Minnesota, making their home in the country in rural Stanchfield where she enjoyed caring for her large vegetable and flower gardens and raising chickens and selling eggs. Linnea was an immaculate housekeeper and baked everything from scratch to the delight of friends and family. She was an expert at needlework and made many baby sweaters, slippers and booties. Following Martin’s death in 1984, Linnea moved to an apartment in Cambridge and lived at Ashland Place until June of 2010 when she broke her ankle and moved to Grace Pointe Crossing Gables East. She passed away there on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the age of 95 years, 17 days. Linnea is survived by one sister, Evelyn Kanberg of Bothell, WA, sister-in-law Sharon (Walter) Johnson of Coon Rapids, MN; nieces Joanne Lofgren (John) Ploetz of Harris, MN, Marlene (Dave) Dolney of River Falls, WI; Wendy (Curt) Moeckel of Ceylon, MN; nephews Loren (Crystal) Kanberg of Trego, MT; Alan (Terry) Johnson of Spring Lake Park, MN; Wayne Johnson of Ramsey, MN; Greg (Colette) Johnson of Coon Rapids, MN; Paul (Denise) Johnson of New Richmond, WI; and niece-in-law Linnea (David) Lofgren of Rush City, MN as well as several grand nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Gjerda Johnson, husband Martin Erickson, sisters Inez Lofgren and Margaret Johnson, brother Walter Johnson, brothers-in-law Robert Lofgren, Kenneth Johnson, and Karl Kanberg, and nephew David Lofgren. Peace be to her memory Funeral service for Mrs. Linnea Erickson will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rush Point. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church of Rush Point.
