George Larry Stockdill

Mr. George Stockdill; of Pine City; died Sunday (6/10/12) at the University of Minnesota Hospital-Fairview in Mpls at the age of 73 years. He was born in Chippewa County, Minnesota on May 1, 1939 to George H. and Alma (Johnson) Stockdill. George grew up on a farm near De Graff, Minnesota, where he fondly recalled attending a one room schoolhouse. At the age of 12 his family moved to Forest Lake, Minnesota. He joined the Army at the age of 17, serving in California, Germany and Georgia. He worked several different jobs in his younger years, finally settling into a career as Public Works Director for the City of Forest Lake from 1971 to his retirement in 2002. He also worked as a volunteer fireman for the City of Forest Lake. In 1960 he married Kathleen Laurie and together they raised their 3 children. In 1978 they moved to Pine City and enjoyed life on the river. George loved helping out in his neighborhood keeping driveways plowed in winter and lawns mowed in summer for several of his neighbors. He was an enthusiastic fisherman, deer hunter and cribbage player. “Papa” also enjoyed taking care of his great grandchildren. George is survived by his wife Kathy, daughters Jodie Klinkhammer and husband Doug, Jeanne Korf, son George “Willy” Stockdill and wife Keri all of Pine City, grandchildren Abby, Adam Klinkhammer, Danielle and Tessa Korf, great grandchildren Allyson Chromey, Payton Fystrom, Ryann Weirens, brother Myles Stockdill of Pine City, many nieces and nephews. George is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Frances, Kenneth, Gloria, Charles, Steven, also Viola and Shirley who died in infancy. Memorial Services for George Stockdill will take place at the Swanson Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16th. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior.
