Eugene Myers was born on September 18, 1941, to George and Mildred (Murphy) Myers in Blue Earth, MN. He passed away on August 2, 2012, at his home with his family at his side after a 13 year courageous battle with cancer.
Eugene lost his mother when he was age 9 and at the age of 16, moved to a farm near Ogilvie, MN. with his father and step-mother. At the age of 17 he enlisted with the U.S. Navy and was stationed out of San Diego CA for four years.
Gene spent most of his working years as a metal fabricator and farmed part-time. He later worked for Pine City Coop, Wayside Equipment and then went over-the-road as a truck driver for Hirschbach, Dressel Construction and American Agco. Gene had a stroke at age 55 and was no longer able to work.
He married his wife, Charlotte, in 1983, and has lived in the Rush City area for over 30 years. He was very active in the Grothe-Jacobson V.F.W. and was commander there for many years and also a member of the American Legion.
He loved deer hunting with his son's, working with wood, gardening and raising sweet corn for his friends and watching the hummingbirds and orioles feed. The last eight years he especially enjoyed going to Texas and spending the winters there and not being in the cold. He always had a project going. He lived every day as if it was his last!
Eugene is survived by his wife, Charlotte, sons Chad (Kristi) Jacoway of White Bear Lake, Russ (Kim) Myers of Shorewood, MN, Shane (Roberta) of Benzonia MI, John (Krista)Myers of Pine City, Mitch Myers, Jason Myers; and daughter Leone (David) Lara, all of Milaca MN, and Wade Myers of North Carolina. Brother Jack (Joan) Myers of Orangeville CA and sister-in-law Audrey Myers of Madison WI. He has 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents George & Mildred Myers, siblings Bill Myers and Irene Morgan.
Father Jerry Hackenmueller will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial; 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City with a time of visitation and reviewal on Monday evening from 5-8 at Olson Funeral Chapel. Music will be provided by Shane Myers, Ravenna Myers, Kristi Jacoway and Dianne Kirchberg. Casket bearers will include Josh Myers, Jordan Myers, Josiah Myers, John Trumbauer, Mike Guimont and Andrew Dziengel. Honorary casket bearers are Bill Weinrich, Nick Cieminski, Todd Dosch, Larry Bothum, Michael Miller and Richard Heffner. The interment will take place in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Rush City, MN. Full military honors will be provided by the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post #6692 and the Minnesota National Guard.
