Myron Shermer of Pine City passed away on Tuesday (8/14/2012) at the age of 61.
Myron was born in Minneapolis on January 19, 1951 to Frank and Evelyn Shermer. He grew up in Pine City and attended the Pine City country schools of Hustletown and Deer Valley. He attended high school in Minneapolis and Pine City. After obtaining his GED, he went to Vo-Tech school to become a journeyman painter. He took real estate and business courses as well.
Myron was a family man. In 1969, he married Carolyn Robinson and together they had five children. His took pride in teaching his children to have a strong work-ethic, and to be kind, honest, loyal and family-focused.
Myron spent time as a farmer, union painter, business owner and house-flipper. His first business was operating a backhoe. At that time he donated sewer work to the Henriette Community Church. After working as a union painter, he started his own painting business and flipped houses on the side. His favorite job was working as the store painter for Dayton’s in Minneapolis.
When he was younger, Myron enjoyed the outdoors: fishing, boating, water skiing, snowmobiling, hunting and camping. Later in life he enjoyed road trips, attending blue grass and country music festivals and wintering in Arizona. Myron also liked motorcycles and watching movies. Above all else, Myron loved to be with family and friends. Even when he wasn’t feeling well, he liked to be with everyone.
Myron was known for being handy. When he worked at Dayton’s he recreated a mannequin’s foot that had broken and did such a good job that no one could tell the difference between his and the original. Another example of Myron’s handiwork was when he hand-pieced trim together to match the old-style woodwork on a farmhouse he was flipping. He also was known for his handy kitchen skills! Neighborhood kids and relatives have fond memories of his popcorn balls and caramel apples at Halloween; and peanut brittle, Chex Mix and divinity candy at Christmas.
Myron is survived by his wife Carolyn Shermer, children: Ed Shermer of Stacy, Tony Shermer of Mora, Roberta (Brandon) Hartig of Sartell, and Andy (Rita) Shermer of Pine City; grandchildren: Travis, Terra, Tyler and Casey; sister Donna (George) Peterson of Pine City, brother Frank (Mary) Shermer of Pine City, sister-in-law Joanie Shermer of Rock Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Frank Shermer and Evelyn Jacobson; step-father Ray Jacobson; daughter Rebecca; brother Edward Shermer; and sister Ione Shermer.
A memorial service will be held next Saturday (8/25/2012) at 11:00 a.m. at the Henriette Community Church in Henriette, Minnesota with Pastor Dave Dwyer and Rollie Splittstoser officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
