Joey was born on February 3, 1995 at Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN. He lived with his parents in Minneapolis area until he was 3. The families then moved to Ramsey, MN were they lived for the next 5 years. At the age of 8 the family moved to Dawson, MN and Joey along with his brother and sister attended school in Montevideo, MN until last year when they moved to Pine City.
Joey has always had health issues and has been hospitalized numerous times for his asthma and once when his appendix ruptured when he was 15. He has always been very cautious and careful in everything he did because of these health issues and was just starting to come out of his little “shell” and do things with other kids, and to finally act like a teenager.
Joey died Thursday August 30, 2012 while riding the four wheeler with his sister Amanda “Ally” Nelson and their friends Wyatt and Emma. He would have been a senior in high school this year and was looking forward to the class trip and graduation. For graduation he wanted perogis and egg rolls served. He wanted to go on to work with animals, but still wasn’t sure exactly what he wanted to do with them. He had a great love for animals and marine life and always talked about wanting to go to sea world and see the orcas.
Joey was loved by many and whenever there was a family get together he would be surrounded by all the younger children who would fight for his attention Autumn, Amerie, and Nessa were usually the winners and he would have to try to give them equal attention. Now he is their guardian angel and will watch over them always as he will watch over all the rest of his family.
He is survived by his parents Linda and Richard Nelson of Pine City, his sister Amanda Tell and her daughter Amerie Korte of Montevideo, MN., sister Ally Nelson of Pine City, brother Robby Nelson of Pine City, maternal grandparents Barb and Ray Snyder of Brooklyn Center, paternal grandparents Diane Nelson of Pine City, Joseph and Virgelia Blaido of Wyoming, MN., maternal great grandmother Hazel Snyder of Minneapolis as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.
