David Arnold Pangerl

February 13, 1982 — August 9, 2012

David Arnold Pangerl, was born February 13, 1982 first of a multiple birth. He passed away on August 11, 2012 near Holtville, California while hiking in the desert. He served 5 ½ years in the U.S. Army enlisting shortly after 9-11 and served through June 26, 2007 receiving an honorable discharge as rank of E-5 Sergeant. He served with A Company 1-16 Infantry and was based out of Fort Riley, Kansas. Dave served a one year tour with Operation Iraqi Freedom, Fallujah, Iraq: September 23, 2003 – August 31, 2004 and another one year tour with Operation Enduring Freedom, Djibouti, Africa: March 28, 2006 – March 29, 2007. Dave received various awards including the Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Dave graduated from St. Cloud State University, Magna Cum Laude, on May 8, 2011, with a Bachelor of Elective Studies with a Minor in Social Sciences and Psychology. Dave was an avid hiker, enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, being alone, moments of solitude, video games, and movies. His previous hikes include the Superior Hiking Trail, especially Eagle Mountain in Minnesota, Theodore Roosevelt Reservoir in Arizona, Olympic Mountains in the state of Washington as well as numerous treks in Tanzania and Kenya Africa. His special interest was getting to understand and appreciate the Somali culture. David is survived by his parents Jolenne and Edward Pangerl; brothers: Edward Pangerl (twin), Daniel Pangerl, Mitchell (Marie) Pangerl; two nieces Victoria and Elinor Pangerl, grandfather Arnold Pangerl, grandmother Donna Lange all of Pine City, and many aunts, uncles & cousins. He is preceded in death by grandmother Marcella Pangerl, grandfather Hartley Lange, uncle Robert Reiser and cousin Peter Ek-Pangerl. Monsigner Aleksander Suchan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial; 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (10/24/12) at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City with a time of visitation Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the Swanson Chapel in Pine City. Music will be provided by Kathy Hagberg and Bobby Peterson. Military honors are provided by Heath-Perkins American Legion Post #51, Novak-Milliren VFW Post #4258, and the Minnesota National Guard.
