Flavio "Floyd" Martinez

Flavio Martinez was born June 7, 1938 in Anton Chico, New Mexico to Jose and Rita Martinez. His mother was Italian and his father Mexican. His mother died when Flavio was quite young and he was raised by his paternal grandparents in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1957, Flavio moved to Colorado and eventually to Minneapolis, MN and became known as Floyd Martinez. He was married to Delores Hoyt of Iowa; in Nevada, Iowa in 1974. The couple lived one year in Minneapolis and in1975 they moved to their home in Rush City; just north of the high school. In the early days, Floyd worked at the Radisson Hotel in Minneapolis and attended art school. He also worked as a landscaper, mostly for fire repair jobs. In 1975, Floyd started his own business "Floyd's Garage" where he did auto repair. He enjoyed working with wood on his lathe and fixing things. Floyd was quite creative and loved to make unique items. Floyd was an active member of Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church. In 2007, Floyd entered the Good Samaritan Home in the metro and lastly in 2012, Grace Point Crossing-Gables East in Cambridge, MN where he died early Tuesday morning at the age of 74 years. Floyd is survived by his wife Delores of Rush City, daughters Barbara Rosenshel, Tonya Holgren, brother Cresencio (Lydia) Martinez, sister-in-law Maggie Martinez, aunt Margie Baca all of Albuquerque, New Mexico, nieces and nephews. Preceding Floyd in death, are his parents Jose & Rita Martinez, brother Ruben Martinez and step-mother Mela Martinez. Mark Sjostrom officiated at Floyd's funeral service; 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Olson Chapel in Rush City. Music was provided by Peggy Denler on the organ and violin. Floyd was interred in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Division.
