Born in Saint Paul on October 7th 1945 Richard “Dick” Roy Olson began his journey through life. He was the son of Roy and Alice Olson. Richard had an older sister Pat and brother Bob along with a younger brother Tom. Richard went to Johnson high school in Saint Paul where he had graduated from in 1963.
After Graduation, Richard went to work for West Publishing. Richard knew just about everyone there. He enjoyed working at West Publishing. After 42 years of being employed with West, Richard retired in 2007.
In the summer of 1970 Richard met the love of his life Bev Rosenow. On May 1st 1971 they were married. For the first few years of their marriage they had spent lots of time with friends and family. They would go bowling and played lots of card games. Richard enjoyed going up to his sister Pat’s house to go fishing on Lake Comfort in Wyoming, MN. They also spent a lot of weekends up in Osakis, MN where Bev’s parents and brother live. On April 7th 1980 they adopted their son Michael. They waited so long for their precious gift of children. They lived in Shoreview, MN at the time with Michael. On January 25th 1984 they adopted their daughter Kristina. Soon after they had the two children they moved out to Glencoe, MN where they wanted to raise their children in a smaller town. They had bought a five acre hobby farm where Richard enjoyed “tinkering” with different things out on “the farm”. Richard was a very loving father who would have done anything for his children. He never missed a baseball game of Michael’s or a Dance recital for Kristina. On October 6th 2006 Richards first and only granddaughter Morgan was born. Once Richard retired he was Morgan’s babysitter. Richard had a very special bond with Morgan. They always had to have tea parties when Morgan went to visit with Grandpa. There was never a time that Richard wouldn’t play Barbie’s, tea parties, or really anything that Morgan wanted Grandpa to do.
In February 2011 Richard was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. As he was in the doctor’s office just after getting the news he saw a bright window with 3 words had appeared: Grace, Love, and Peace which was written backwards from right to left. Richard knew that he didn’t need to be afraid as he had strong faith in the Lord and that with the experience he had in the doctor’s office that he wasn’t alone and that God would be with him. After numerous treatments in the 2 years Richard never complained and didn’t let it get him down. On the morning of January 21st 2013 God visited Richard again, this time to bring him home. Richard was with his wife and two children when he passed peacefully.
