Lawrence "Larry" Robert Peterson passed away at his home on Thursday, June 6, 2013. He was 82 years old. Larry was born February 6, 1931 to Robert and Louise (Rothenbacher) Peterson. He had four older sisters, Mildred, Janet, Marie and Ione. He lived most of his childhood life with his godparents – Anna and Dave Pranghofer on their farm near the Snake River. This is where he learned to love fishing even if with a set line. He married Shirley Stumne, who he knew from church and catechism, in 1950. They had five children – Julie, Chris, Jeff, Les and Scott. All are residents of Pine City, except Chris who lives in Minneapolis, MN. Larry worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis for about 6 years. But he left Honeywell to start his real life's work -- farming. He and Shirley bought a farm east of Pine City. His strong work ethic, along with the assistance of his loving wife, helped him run a dairy farm while also working at Dahlman's in Braham for the first few years. In 1978 they sold the farm to their eldest son, Jeff, and his wife Marianne, and Larry worked at Pine Technical College for 12 years. When he retired from Pine Technical College he drove tractor on Jeff’s family’s farm and also worked part-time at Sauser's Hardware. About 10 years ago Larry and Shirley bought their retirement home in Pine City on 10th Street SW. The constant guiding force in Larry’s life was his Catholic faith. He lived out his faith by making his family his number one priority. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and almost all sports. One of his favorite activities was watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events. Later in life when time permitted he enjoyed his work with the Knights of Columbus and especially working with the young Squires.
