Audie Skogman of New Hope, formerly of Ogilvie, passed away at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the age of 80 years.
Audie was born on October 26, 1932 to Anton and Amanda (Anderson) Skogman. Audie, one of ten children, was the second to the youngest. He was born in the years of “The Great Depression” and was raised on a farm near Ogilvie, Mn.
In 1953, Audie was drafted into the United States Army and served overseas in Korea during the Korean War. Audie was a proud veteran and often spoke about his fond memories of Korea. In his later years, Audie served as an active member in the Korean War Veteran’s Chapter One. He was proud to take part in the monthly Chapter One meetings and volunteered his services monthly at the Minneapolis VA Hospital, helping out in any way he could.
Audie had a strong work ethic and family values. He was married on August 22, 1959 to Ardis Arlene Johnson and raised two sons Alan and Gary in New Hope, Minnesota.
Audie was a skilled craftsman and found a comfortable career in the construction industry. Audie was very proud to say he worked for Kraus-Anderson Construction for nearly 24 years and retired as a Job Site Superintendent.
His passions included fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, golf and traveling in their motor home.
Everyone who knew Audie remembers him for his jokes. He would not let a conversation go by without telling at least one joke. Even in his last few days he was still telling jokes to anyone within his presence.
Audie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Ardis, sons: Alan (Nancy) Skogman of Otsego, Gary Skogman of Rush City; granddaughters: Jenny, Kristy, Nicole, Jenny, Nicole, Jessica and Samantha; great grandchildren: Kayden, Camren, Ava, Graham, Brady, and Cullen; brother Lawrence (Beverly) Skogman and many family and friends.
Audie is preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.
Pastor Phil Schmidt will officiate memorial services; 11:00 a.m. Saturday, (June 15, 2013) at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. A time of visitation is planned for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Military honors will be provided by the Grothe-Jacobson VFW of Rush City and the Minnesota National Guard with the interment in the First Lutheran Cemetery of Rush City.
