Scot Todd Ploetz

August 26, 1961 — July 31, 2013

Scot was born August 26, 1961 to Raymond and Ruthann Ploetz at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN and baptized at Bethel United Methodist Church in Mound, MN. He grew up on Halstead’s Bay and attended Mound public school. He graduated from Minnetonka High school in 1980. Scot’s interest in building brought him to the Alexandria Technical School for Carpentry, which then led him to a career as a finishing carpenter/cabinet maker. Throughout his short fifty two years, he worked at Pratt Homes. His talent and expertise earned him respect among his peers allowing him to open his own business: Great Scot Custom Woodwork. The last four years, Scot worked at Grand Casino Hinckley as a Security Guard and Slot Technician where he made many friends. Scot married Julie Peterson at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Northfield, MN on September 16, 1989. Their two sons Cody (20) and Conner (11 ½) were the light of Scot’s life and a constant source of pride and joy. Both boys followed their father’s footsteps by becoming Boy Scouts. Particular moments of pride for Scot were watching Cody become an Eagle Scout and being a part of Conner’s Boy Scouts achievements. As a family they enjoyed camping and outdoor adventures. Many of the fond memories the boys have with Scot are those of fishing, hunting, going to the shooting range and on family tours of parks and historic sites. His bout with Crohn’s Disease began 24 years ago. He set out to prove the doctors wrong by outliving and thriving beyond his diagnosis. In doing so he demonstrated incredible strength and endurance that has left an imprint on those that came in contact with him. Scot died Wednesday (7/31/13) at the J. A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park, MN. Scot is survived by wife Julie Ploetz, sons: Cody and Conner Ploetz; father: Ray (Lynne) Ploetz of Hanover, mother Ruthann Murray of Chokio, brothers: Alan (Kristin) Ploetz of Maple Grove, Shad (Rebecca) Murray of International Falls; sisters: Meri (Mark) DeCaria of Ogden, Utah, Katie (Rocque) Sanchez of Plymouth, Karieann (Kevin) Kubera of River Falls, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews, mother-in-law Helen Peterson of Northfield, brothers-in-law: Chris (Marcia) Peterson, Brian (Mary) Peterson, Bruce (Carol) Peterson all of Northfield; sister-in-law Susan (Chris) Wilberts of Lauderdale.
