Rose Edell Marie Hopkins

Rose Hopkins of Pine City died Friday, August 9th at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale at the age of 82. Rose was born in Superior, Wisconsin. Her family moved to a farm in Warman, Minnesota where she attended school. In 1948 Rose married Lewis "Hoppy" Hopkins and they had four children. Rose's early years of marriage were spent as a housewife and mother. She then worked as the office manager for Northwest LP Gas. In later years, she spent much of her time cooking for the Pine City American Legion. Cooking was not just a job; it was her passion. And everyone who knew her benefited from that passion. Rose was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She served several terms as president of the Pine City Post 51 and also was the 10th district American Legion Auxiliary President. After her retirement she has spent time traveling, wintering in Arizona, gardening and cooking for everyone. Rose will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched. She is survived by her longtime companion Ray Anderson of Pine City, children: Janice (Frank) Runa of Witchita, Kansas, Beverly (Lee) Svoboda of Mora, Doug Hopkins of Pine City, Gary (Crystal) Hopkins of Oak Grove; grandchildren: Tammi (JC) Alonzo, Buddy (Cammy) Runa, Jodi Gerken, Tara (Scott) Wletschak, Eric (Jen) Svoboda, Krista Svoboda, Jason, Brett, Holly, Carli, Alicia, and Dana Hopkins; great grandchildren: Jaynie, Kaitlyn, Mary Beth, Sam, Brandon, Lane, Jessica, Macy, Megan, Grace, Natalie, Hayden, Zeb, and Jayven; sisters: Mavis Smith and Judy Morgenweck; brothers: Kenneth Udean and Dennis Udean; many other relatives and friends. In October 2013, Rose would have been a great great grandmother to two baby boys. She is preceded in death by her parents George & Mildred (Olson) Udean, husband Lewis “Hoppy” Hopkins and her brother Gerald Udean. Pastor Rob Spahr will officiate funeral services for Rose Hopkins at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Pine City. Music will be provided by Pastor Rob Pesola and Melanie Halvorson. Visitation and reviewal will be held on Tuesday, August 13th from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Swanson Funeral Chapel. Interment is in the Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City. Casket bearers include: Buddy Runa, Eric Svoboda, Jason Hopkins, Brett Hopkins, Brandon Runa and Frank Runa.
