Heather Marie (Ohlsen) Temte, loving wife and mother of three, passed on September 9, 2013 at home with her husband and parents present. Heather has been living with kidney cancer for seven years, and an end to her suffering came that quiet, rainy morning at the age of 39.
Heather was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on October 10, 1973. She grew up in North Branch, MN, graduating from high school there in 1992. She completed her teaching degree at Winona State University in 1999 and worked for many years as a substitute teacher. Heather married Matthew Temte on November 14, 1998 along the North Shore -- one of her favorite places. Heather's three children Faye, Henry and Elsa were born in the succeeding years.
Heather’s first love was her family. She loved and cherished her children and husband deeply. Her brothers and sisters, parents, cousins, aunts and uncles were a constant source of joy through family reunions, writing letters and photographs. She home schooled each of the kids for their first few grades and truly treasured her time teaching them. Heather enjoyed the Boundary Waters. She worked for a church camp during college, guiding groups on canoe trips. Her last trip there was with her husband and youngest daughter during the summer of August 2012. At home in her last years, Heather was very fond of her wood-burning stove. She spent hours cutting wood (when her health allowed) and by the hearth (sometimes while the air conditioner labored at the opposite end of the house). Heather also enjoyed poetry and art; she was fantastically creative.
She had a unique pizazz and zestful spirit. She was a go-getter and reached out to help others, jumping in without hesitation. She will be dearly missed by all those she touched.
Heather is survived by her loving husband of 14 years Matthew, children: Faye, Henry and Elsa; parents Gary and Alice Ohlsen, siblings: Geneve (Michael) Vaughan, Debbie (Sean) Hora, Molly (Kyle) Sykes, Seth (Kristen) Ohlsen, Oden Ohlsen; parents-in-law Michael and Susan Temte, sisters-in-law: Sarah (Jeramy) Kulesa and Genna Temte.
Heather is preceded in death by her grandparents.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated; 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Church in Pine City with con-celebrants Monsignor Aleksander Suchan, Father David Forsman and Deacon Mark Pulkrabek. A time of visitation and reviewal will be held at the church one and a half hours prior. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. A private family interment to follow.
