Ed Roubinek, former owner of Roubinek Motors of Pine City, died Thursday morning, September 26th at the Lakeside Nursing Home of Pine City. He was 93 years old.Ed was born in 1920 and spent his childhood years living in Pine City and Sandstone. He joined the National Guard in September of 1940 and was enlisted into active service with the United States Army in February 1941. As a soldier and auto mechanic over the next four years in WWII, Ed spent time in Northern Africa, Italy, Southern France, Germany, and Central Europe. He received his honorable discharge from the Army in September of 1945. After the war Ed settled in Pine City in 1952 and started Roubinek Motors with his brother George. In 1953, he married June Jacobson. They purchased a house next to Roubinek Motors and raised two sons, Steven and Mark. This past June, Ed and June celebrated 60 years of marriage. Ed always enjoyed working and tinkering with cars. Even after turning Roubinek Motors over to Steven in 1983, he continued his pursuit of making the perfect modifications to his vehicles. He always made sure his vehicles were clean and he could be seen polishing, cleaning the chrome trim, and making sure his tires were spotless.Enjoying the simple things were a big part of Ed’s pastimes. He enjoyed traveling and camping, visiting his relatives and Army buddies, kidding others with his playful sense of humor, attending church activities, and playing the card game “500.” Ed was quite the bidder in “500.” He was extremely skillful in making his “bid” even though he didn’t have very good cards. He is survived by his wife June, his sons Steve (Adrienne) of Pine City, Mark (Sue) of St. Charles, MN, two grandchildren, Jacob (Amanda) of Lakeville, MN, Noelle Roubinek of Auburn, WA, and great grandson Edward Roubinek of Lakeville, MN.Ed was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (France) Roubinek, and three brothers, George, Louis, and Art RoubinekFuneral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30th at the First Presbyterian Church of Pine City with Pastor Rob Spahr officiating.
