Margit Caroline Hedberg

Margit Hedberg was born April 21, 1943, the only child of Margit and Jacob Storebo. Her mom died from complications following childbirth, and Margit was raised by her grandmother until the age of eight. After Jacob re-married to Ethel Degerstrom, Margit became part of a blended family. She attended grade school in Bruno and high school in Askov and grew up in Bruno's Trinity Lutheran Church. Margit met Marvin "Marv" Hedberg at Oak Lake Lutheran Church at his sister Barbara's wedding. She was the organist and he the best man wearing an Air Force uniform. They married at Hope Lutheran Church in Moose Lake on April 27, 1968. While living in south Minneapolis, Margit worked at Employers Overload and Marv worked for Dispatch Oven. At one time, they lived just blocks from Minnehaha Falls. On March 17, 1969, Margit gave birth to Melanie, the oldest of two daughters. On July 9, 1970, Melissa arrived and the family of the 4 "M & M's" was complete. In September of 1971, after Marv graduated from Dunwoody Institute, Margit and Marvin moved to town in Rush City, MN. They purchased an 8-acre hobby farm just outside of town in 1975, and after working hard on the home for over a year, moved into it in September of 1976. A large garden was planted annually, and Margit loved all the animals the family had over the years, including large and small horses, miniature donkeys, sheep, rabbits, chickens, poodles, and a various assortment of cats. Margit cared for her two young daughters at home while Marv worked at Plastech. When the girls began school, she took a job at C.E. Jacobson Elementary as a playground aide. She then worked as a one-on-one aide with a boy named Luke, who had Spinabifita. When Luke passed away in 3rd grade, Margit took Home Health Aide (HHA) training and did amazing work with clients in Chisago County. She then became the co-coordinator at the Rush City Senior Dining Site. There, she put her heart and soul into daily meal reservations, coordinating Meals on Wheels, fun activities, entertaining programs, decorating, bulletin boards, hosting various birthday and holiday parties. In the spring of 2006, the after-effects of her first stroke made it difficult for her to continue working. Margit retired from Rush City Senior Dining after nearly 15 years of dedicated service and she greatly missed seeing the senior citizens on a daily basis. Margit was always active in her family’s lives, as they were her #1 priority. She had great love and support for her husband and daughters, and she never missed one of their events. She faithfully brought them to piano, guitar, and baton lessons. She sewed dress clothes and Halloween costumes for both girls. The 4 "M & M's" participated in various parades, including riding on a bicycle built for four. Margit sewed the parade costumes for the family. As Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, she served with Marv for 20 years at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City. Together, they began a puppet ministry called the "Sonbeam Puppeteers". She decorated birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends and hosted family gatherings. She made sure to celebrate family birthdays and holidays in a very special way. Margit and Marv worked well together and made a huge impact on the lives of many. Margit's most unforgettable trait was her amazing ability to help others and do all she could for children and senior citizens. Despite the challenges she faced in life, she always focused on her family and her love for them. She had a real gift for making others feel special and encouraged them to always make memories. Margit passed away peacefully on Wednesday (12/4/13) at her home in Rush City at the age of 70. Margit Hedberg is survived by her husband Marvin; daughters: Melanie Hedberg of Rush City, Melissa Tingsombutyout and her husband Toy of Jacksonville, Florida, step sister Imogene (Rolly) Johnson, half sister Janice (Jim) Randers-Storebo and half brother Ricky Storebo. She is preceded in death by her parents Jacob & Margit (Palm) Storebo, step mother Ethel Storebo and step sister Joy Pearson. Reverend Nathan Anderson will officiate at a memorial service for Margit; Wednesday (12/11/13) at 1:00 p.m. at the Oak Lake Lutheran Church in Kerrick; with a time of visitation Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City. The inurnment will be in the Oak Lake Community Cemetery in Kerrick in the spring.
