Daune Duane Kuss

October 15, 1929 — January 9, 2014

On Thursday morning, January 9th, at age 84, Daune Kuss passed away at his home in the presence of his wife Arla and his immediate family. Daune’s final 48 hours of life were a peaceful sleep surrounded by the loving embrace of his loved ones. His wish of remaining in his home on Lake Pokegama during his final bout with cancer, was accomplished with great peace and serenity. Daune was born on the Sam Warner farm just south of Blue Earth, Minnesota. His family moved to Columbia Heights, a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, as Daune entered his school years. He graduated from Columbia Heights High School and after furthering his education at Dunwoody Institute as an auto mechanic, he opened his own service station with his partner John Godava in Columbia Heights (Don & John’s Skelly) in 1954. The station was a vibrant part of the community for 30 years. He served for two years in Radar Service in Finley, North Dakota with the United States Air Force. After successfully raising four kids, Daune with his loving wife Arla, retired at their home on Pokegama Lake, 5 miles east of Pine City, Minnesota in 1995. There he enjoyed boating, snowmobiling and all-around tinkering. Holiday family gatherings and the annual Kuss family deer hunting events were some of his greatest delights. He is survived by his wife Arla Kuss, children: Duane Kuss and his wife Bette of Cold Spring, Lori Smith and her husband Doug of St. Francis, Todd Kuss and his wife Kim of Chaska, Jerry Kuss and his wife Janice of Cedar; 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and brother Raymond Kuss and his wife Jan of St. Francis. Daune is preceded in death by his parents Hugo & Vearl (Warner) Kuss, brother Marlin Kuss, sisters: Darlene Charley, and Mary Cornelius. Reverend Glen Kleppe will officiate a funeral service at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 14th with visitation and reviewal 2 hours prior; all at Zion Lutheran Church in Pine City. A private spring interment will take place in Sunset Memorial park in Minneapolis. Funeral arrangements for Daune Kuss are entrusted to the Funeral & Cremation Service of Pine City *Swanson Chapel* www.funeralandcremationservice.com
