Thomas Strandmark passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on Wed. Feb. 12, 2014 surrounded by family and friends at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepdad Georgette and Lloyd Gundersgaard, father Clayton Strandmark, brothers: Robert and Richard Strandmark; and foster son John Winkleblack. He is survived by his loving wife Judy, sons Michael (Kathryn), Gregory, and Thomas S. (Brenda), and foster daughter Donette (Tom) Gould, grandchildren: Travis, Brandon, Casey and Mallory (Ashley); and great granddaughters: Brooke, Rikki, Riley, Sheldyn and Rachel. Also brother George Strandmark, brothers-in-law: Robert (Mary) Deutsch, Donald (Lisa) Deutsch, and Anthony Deutsch; together with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Tom was born in St. Paul in 1942. As a young man he worked for Gillette Company then became a truck driver for Century Mercury Motor Freight. He went on to become an independent over-the-road trucker and later drove for Walgreen's. He was a devoted father, foster dad and grandpa. His favorite pastimes were fishing, a little hunting, and exciting trips to many antique flea markets with his wife to find new little items to add to his collections. He was a proud member of the Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota Community. He was at his happiest when he was surrounded by his family, his good friends and his dearly loved dogs...Penny and Molly. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Swanson Funeral Chapel, 665 3rd Ave. SW. A Memorial visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Luncheon will follow at the Rock Creek City Hall, Hwy. 61 & Hwy. 70. (5 miles south of Pine City.)
