George "Sonny" P. Workman Jr.

George "Sonny" Preston Workman Jr. 62 passed away on February 15, 2014 at his home in Pine City, MN. George "Sonny" was born in St. Paul, MN. to George & Augustina (VanHorn) Workman on August 8, 1951. He went to school and graduated from Pine City high school. He married his wife Vicky on December 17, 1994 in Pine City. He was known by many friends and family as Sonny. He was known by his grandkids as Papa, Happy and Grandpa. He had a way of listening to anyone and giving advice. When just sitting and talking to him you could learn things past and present. George was a man of many talents; he could build anything for his home, motorcycle, car or truck. He was most recently converting his motorcycle to a three-wheeler so he could continue riding while he was handicapped. He loved hunting and spending time at home with family and friends as well as going out to breakfast with friends and family at the Rock Creek Truck Stop. George graduated from Pine Technical College and in 1980 opened Sonny's Auto Body Shop. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Navy on the USS ROGER. He received a citation for keeping the ship afloat. He was involved in Hustletown Community Church, was on the state of Minnesota fire warden commission and a long time supporter of veteran organizations. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents George & Augustina Workman as well as many close friends. He is survived by his wife Vicky and their children: Daniel Workman, William (Becky) Dodd, Danny "Clay" Jones and Kayla Workman-Mettler, his grandchildren: Magdalena, Lubet, Aurora, Danny Jr. and Memphis George. He is also survived by sisters Patricia (Steve) Born, Peggy (Steve) Kosel, Priscila (Gregory) Schneider and Joan (Myron) Haug. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20th @ Hustletown Community Church, Pine City, with Pastor Bruce Thompson officiating. A memorial visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Hustletown Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the homeless veterans at the VA community Resource and Referral Center, 1201 Harmon Place, Suite 103, Mpls., MN. 55403 and/or Hospice Foundation, 333 Smith Ave. N., suite 4640, St. Paul, MN. 55102 in memory of George P. Workman Jr. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Pastor Bruce, Lindsay Fedder, Allina Health Hospice Team Nurse Lila Chryst, social worker Mary Schoenck and Chaplain T. Helker.
