Elizabeth "Betty" Vail of Cambridge, passed away peacefully February 24, 2014 at Woodbury Health Care Center at the age of 80.
Betty was born in Hannibal, Missouri on April 29, 1933 to Oliver and Mildred (Reischling) Ryan. She met Bill Vail in 1950, and they were married in 1951. During their early years of marriage they lived in Aurora, IL and St. Paul, MN. Betty worked in the medical field as a dental assistant, and later as a bookkeeper for a medical supply company, and an optometrist. Upon retirement, they moved to Rush City, MN and lived in Shorewood Park on East Rush Lake. In 2003 they moved to Cambridge, MN.
During their 61 years of marriage, Betty and Bill were blessed with six children, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Following the death of her husband in 2011, Betty returned to work as a volunteer at the Cambridge Medical Center. She was very well liked and respected by patients and staff. She loved helping others! Betty enjoyed crocheting, fishing, gardening, golf, travel, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Betty said, “Every day is a gift! So have a great day!”
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Billy Dean Vail, son William Vail, and her sister Mary McLaughlin. She is survived by her children: Larry Vail of Columbia Heights, John (Colleen) Vail of Vadnais Heights, Tom (Debby) Vail of North Branch, Sara (Joe) Garvey of Woodbury, Joe (Julie) Vail of Minnetonka; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren, many friends and neighbors. She will be especially missed by her dear friend Marlene Tauzell.
Father Donald Wagner will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cambridge, MN. (230 North Fern Street) A time of visitation will take place 1 1/2 hours prior to the service also at the church.
The Interment will take place in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery of Rush City with the following active casket bearers: Larry D. Vail, Thomas L. Vail, Joseph F. Garvey, John C. Vail and Joseph P. Vail. Honorary casket bearers include Ryan Vail, John Vail, Patrick Vail, Sam Garvey and Adam Vail.
Memorials are preferred to the Harbor Room at the Cambridge Medical Center, 701 S Dellwood St, Cambridge, MN 55008.
