Rita Diane (Ammons) Lindahl passed away peacefully, surrounded by several family members at her rural Pine City home on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the age of 60.
Rita was the only daughter born to Jesse and Lorene (White) Ammons on August 8, 1953 in Montgomery, Alabama. She attended Holtville High School in Alabama. Rita was briefly married, had three children, Jeannie, Bobby and Jesse and moved to the Twin City area of Minnesota. After a few years, she met her Soul Mate, Keith Lindahl of Pine City. They were married in an outdoor ceremony in 1982 on the family farm. Together they joined their two families and added the “ours” to their ‘yours, mine and ours family”, bringing the number of total children to nine. Rita adored her husband and loved having her kids and grandkids around her. When a new member joined the family via marriage, they were always known to her as her daughter or son. Her family was her very heartbeat.
Rita loved helping with field work on the farm, growing an enormous garden to supply her large family with fresh produce all year long. She enjoyed canning her garden goods. Rita was a 4-H leader for more than 15 years with the Harvesters 4-H Club, volunteered her time at school with her kids and several years ago served as an Awana listener at a local church. She facilitated casino tours enjoyed her time at the casino. Rita was a self-taught seamstress but attended Century College to refine her sewing skills. She was a very gifted and talented seamstress and was the proprietor of the Quick Stitch Sew Shop in Hinckley, MN for several years. She was known by many as simply, “The Sewing Lady”. She did many alterations for people and could sew just about anything, but really loved making elaborate wedding dresses and formal wear. Rita was a very kind hearted woman who was loved by so many. Rita loved to go fishing, camping and traveling. When she was able to, she loved to travel with her boys in their semi’s. Rita enjoyed collecting porcelain doll, and antiques. She was a very competitive person and there was no mercy when playing games with her. Rita most recently spent her time with her husband managing the Hinckley Flea Market. She will be missed by so many.
Rita is survived by her husband Keith of Pine City, children: Bruce Lindahl and his wife Jody of Stillwater, Brian (Darlene) Lindahl of Isanti, Jeannie (Kurt) Montague of Pine City, Brandon (Nicole) Lindahl of Lindstrom, Bobby (Jenny) Lindahl of Pine City, Jesse (Wendy) Lindahl of Pine City, Brad (Jennifer) Lindahl of Woodbury, Brock (Florence) Lindahl of Moundsview, Keith (Caytie) Lindahl of Pine City; daughters-in-law: Rosemary Lindahl, Rhonda Lindahl, and Mandy Kinkade; 32 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brothers: Robert (Marcia) Ammons of Montgomery, Alabama, GW (Ellen) Ammons of Montgomery, Alabama, many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Lorene (White) Ammons, brothers: Randall and Wade Ammons, and nephew Danny Ammons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26th at Immaculate Conception Church in Pine City. A time of visitation with reviewal will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25th at the Swanson Funeral Chapel with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.
