Janet Elaine Peters

December 17, 1925 — March 12, 2014

Janet Elaine (Nestor) Peters was born December 17, 1925, to Erick and Alma Nestor in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Janet passed away March 12, 2014 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. At age 7 she and her family moved to the Rock Creek area.  Janet attended elementary school in Rock Creek and graduated from Pine City High School in 1944.   Following graduation, she married Edwin “Bud” Peters at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado on June 28, 1944. After finishing Bud’s time in the service, they moved back to Minnesota and bought a farm in West Rock. In August 1946, their oldest daughter Linda was born, followed by Mary in 1951. After the passing of Janet’s mother in 1951, Janet and Bud moved with their girls to her family farm in Rock Creek.  Janet and Bud continued to live on this farm until her passing. Janet was a homemaker and farmer.  She worked 50+ years at Sauser’s Hardware in Pine City and was the Treasurer of the City of Rock Creek for several years until her illness forced her to give up working at the age of 85.  Janet loved her community of Rock Creek and was active in local PTAs, Rock Creek Homemakers, Rush City Hospital Auxiliary, and the Jasper #28 Chapter of the Eastern Star during her life.  She was proud of her Scandinavian heritage and a member of the American Swedish Institute for many years. Janet truly loved life. She loved to travel and some of her favorite trips were to her beloved Sweden, Branson, Missouri, Canada fishing and countless trips with friends.  She loved all things Swedish, but lutefisk most of all.  She enjoyed time spent playing cards with friends. More than all of her life accomplishments, Janet loved Bud, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  “Grandma Bud” never missed an opportunity to see them at a sporting event, school concert, Christmas program, holidays, or any other important celebrations and events in their lives. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Erick Nestor, brother Jack Nestor and infant sister Helen. Janet is survived by her husband Edwin “Bud” Peters; children: Linda (Larry) Soderbeck of Pine City, Mn., and Mary (Mark) Skalicky of Beroun, Mn. Grandchildren: Laura (Terry) Thompson of Baldwin, Wi., Michael Skalicky, James (Maren) Soderbeck of Roberts, Wi., Matthew Skalicky of Pine City, Mn, and Bess Skalicky of Marshall, Mn.  Great-grandchildren: Tanner & Cameron Thompson, Gabriel Skalicky, and Josephine & Branson Soderbeck. We will all miss her. A Memorial Service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29th at Swanson Funeral Chapel with a memorial visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the www.funeralandcremationservice.com, Swanson Chapel of Pine City.
