Elsie Katherine Cummings

Elsie Katherine was born at home to Jonas and Martha (Johnson) Holmstrom on January 13, 1917 in Comfort Township, Minnesota (just east of Mora). She was the oldest of ten children and attended District 13 grade school. She lived with Ruth Anderson in Mora while she attended high school. Elsie met her husband of 53 years at a dance and they married on February 21, 1942 while Walt was still in the Army. After Walt was discharged, they moved to Superior, Wisconsin where their first child was born in September 1943. Elsie and Walt ended up on a farm east of Brook Park, Minnesota where the rest of the children were born. They farmed there until 1962 when they bought a larger farm east of Pine City. Walt passed away in 1995 and Elsie stayed on the farm until January 2012 when she entered Lakeside Nursing Home in Pine City. She resided there until her passing on May 17, 2014 at the age of 97. She is survived by her sons: Kenneth Cummings of Pine City, Alvin (Ginny) Cummings of Brooklyn Park, Curt (Theresa) Cummings of Pine City; daughter Susan (Ed) Wilde of Pine City, daughter-in-law Pam (Greg) Ardner of Mora, 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, brother Donald Holmstrom, sisters: Violet Sanders and Ruth Clementson; sisters-in-law: Betty Holmstrom and Margie Cummings. Elsie is preceded in death by her husband Walter, sons: Gareth and Charles, parents Jonas & Martha Holmstrom, brothers: Mauritz, Stanley; sisters: Mildred, Jeanette, and Dorothy; and great grandson Logan. Pastor Tim Adams officiated the funeral service for Elsie Cummings on Thursday, May 22nd at Journey North Church of Pine City. Joe Fortier and Amanda Cummings provided music. Casket bearers were Shawn Cummings, Gareth Cummings, Michael Bock, Patrick Cummings, Adam Cummings, and Cordell Cummings. Interment was in Birchwood Cemetery of Pine City.
