Marlys passed away suddenly Thursday evening, May 29th at her home in Pine City. Marlys Irene was born in Dalton, Minnesota to Mentor and Irene (Rovang) Bothum.  As a young girl she moved with her family to Starbuck, Minnesota where she attended school and graduated from their local high school. After high school she attended a year of beauty school in the Twin Cities.  It was during this time she met Norman Opheim.  They were married in August of 1957.  Norm was in the Armed Forces so they moved to Florida where he was stationed.  They later moved to Moorhead, Minnesota and lived for several years while Norm finished college. After college, work took them to Parkers Prairie, Minnesota for 7 years then to Sherburn, Minnesota for 27 years. During this time Marlys would use her beautician training by fixing hair occasionally when someone needed it.  She also worked in the admitting office of the hospital in Fairmont, as a secretary to a trucking firm in Sherburn and as a teller at a bank in Parkers Prairie. After retirement they moved to Pine City in 1997. Marlys enjoyed reading and collecting antiques.  She and her brother owned and managed an antique shop in Pine City for a number of years. Marlys is survived by her husband Norm, her children Cathy (Rick) Thulien of Jackson, Mn., Jeff (Julie) Opheim of Apple Valley, Jason (Robyn) Opheim of Lenexa, Kansas, grandchildren Brandi, Marisa, Jake, Mariah, Jackson, Emily, Zachary and T.J.  She is also survived by a sister Karen (Doug) Baker of Minneapolis and brother Larry (Judy) Bothum of Pine City.  She was preceeded in death by her parents Mentor and Irene Bothum. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 2nd at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City.  A memorial visitation is scheduled for 2 hour prior to the service only.  Inurnment will be in Fron Cemetery, Starbuck, Minnesota at a later date.
