Marian Lones, age 89 of Pine City, long time educator of the Pine City Schools died early Wednesday morning at Ecumen in North Branch, Minnesota where she had been living for a number of months.
Marian Shirley Lones was born on November 15, 1924 to Earnulf and Florence (Rust) Andersen in St. Paul, Minnesota. She lived her early life in St. Paul graduating from both Monroe High School and Macalester College in St. Paul. After graduation from college Marian moved to Pine City to teach English. She met William Lones of Pine City and they were married on July 21, 1951 at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Marian continued to teach in the Pine City Schools, a position she was to hold for 44 years. During this time she would become the first Pine City secondary teacher to be awarded “Teacher of Excellence” in 1973. She also was awarded the Community Service Award in 1986. Marian also was involved in the Pine City Read project and she enjoyed traveling, reading and Elderhostel.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Sr. & granddaughter Amy Lones. She is survived by her daughter Betsy and her husband Glen Santi of Brainard, son Bill Lones and his wife Pat of Osceola, WI., grandson Chris Lones and his wife Linda of Pittsburgh, PA, sisters Patricia (Curt) Odden of Hammond, WI, Kathleen (Mike) Wallen of Aurora, Colo., nieces, nephews and literally thousands of former students and many friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 9 th at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8 th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. also at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Birchwood Cemetery. The familly requests memorials to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Catholic Charities/meals on wheels.
