Larry Shimitz of Beroun died Thursday, August 21st at Fairview Lakes Hospital in Wyoming at the age of 75.
Larry Lee Shimitz was born December 16, 1938 in Aberdeen, South Dakota; the son of Joe and Arloween (Lundgren) Shimitz. Larry grew up in Minnesota and moved to Sioux City, Iowa in the early 50’s. He married Carol (Loutsch) Shimitz in early 60’s. They made a home in Sioux City, Iowa and together they had two children: Ricky (Jony) Shimitz of El Paso, TX and Brenda (Richard) Sopoci of Sioux City, IA; along with step-children Judy (Randy) Speckmann, Debbie Pearson, Penny (David) DeLapp, and Scott Shimitz. They later divorced in 1970.
Larry returned to the Minnesota area where he grew up. He remarried (Renee Dingman) and had step-children. Together they had two children Joey Shimitz and Malinda Erickson. They moved around a lot and returned to the Minnesota area. After being married for many years they divorced in 1991.
Larry remarried Karen (Fleming) and made their home in Wyoming, MN. After Karen passed away in 2008 he moved to Beroun, MN where he resided until his death.
Larry loved animals, outdoors, and camping. He enjoyed fishing and working on cars.
Larry is survived by his children: Ricky (Jony) Shimitz of El Paso, Texas, Brenda (Richard) Sopoci of Sioux City, Iowa, Malinda (David Arnold) Erickson of Kiester, Minnesota, Joseph Shimitz of Isanti, Minnesota; step-children: Judy (Randy) Speckmann of Sioux City, Iowa, Debbie Pearson of Sioux City, Iowa, Penny (Dave) DeLapp of Hinton, Iowa, Scott Shimitz of Sioux City, Iowa, Kimberly Bever of Forest Lake, Minnesota, Frank (Jen) Dingman of Pine City, Minnesota, Doreen Klose of Sandstone, Taynia (David) Meschberger of Calumet, Oklahoma, Bobby (Brenda) Dingman of Mora, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren, 17 step-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Arloween (Lundgren) Shimitz, brothers Glenn and Joel Shimitz, and stepson Bill Dingman.
Funeral services for Larry Shimitz are scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 27th at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. A time of visitation and reviewal will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Calvary Cemetery of Beroun.
