Janice Vivian Nelson

Mrs. Janice Nelson of Rush City passed away Friday (11/14/14) at Ecumen of North Branch, MN at the age of 85. Janice was born to Harry & Esther Anderson on March 18, 1929 at their family farm located in rural Cook, MN. She was the fourth of six children in the family. In 1936 she asked Jesus into her heart while praying with her Uncle Oscar and her siblings. The Anderson family attended the East Little Fork Baptist Church and the Cook Baptist Church as Janice was growing up. Janice graduated in 1947 from Cook High School which she often spoke of fondly. In 1948 she moved to Minneapolis, MN to live with her sister, Irene. She attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis then went on to be employed for 12 years at an insurance company in downtown Minneapolis. On August 6, 1960 she was united in marriage at the Cook Baptist Church to David Nelson of Rush City. The couple resided at their home on the family farm located in Rush City from 1960 until 2013, when Janice became a resident of Ecumen home. Janice loved to bake and entertain people in their home, go for bicycle rides and walks each day, and attend her grandchildren’s school events. Her family will always remember her for her sweet disposition and kindheartedness. Janice and her family attended the Rush City Covenant Church where she was actively involved in many activities including serving as pianist and sunday school teacher. Most recently, until the time she moved to Ecumen, Janice and David had been attending the Rush City Baptist Church. She was also active in the Gideon’s International. Janice Nelson is survived by her husband David Nelson, son Mark Nelson and wife Carrie, grandchildren Kayla, Kevin, and Kyle Nelson all of Rush City; siblings Margaret Sundberg Nordstrom of Roeland Park, KS, Irene Gullickson of Minneapolis, David Anderson of Conestoga, PA, sister-in-law Rosalind Anderson of Minnetonka and many nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Esther Anderson, brothers Lloyd and Paul Anderson, sister-in-law Anita Anderson, brothers-in-law Vern Gullickson, Rev. Paul Sundberg, and Wallace Nordstrom. Pastor David Melin will officiate at funeral services for Janice Nelson Saturday, 11/22/14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rush City Baptist Church. A time of visitation and reviewal is scheduled for Friday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the Olson Chapel in Rush City and also one hour prior to service at the church. The interment will be in the Mission Covenant Cemetery of Rush City. Memorials are suggested to Gideon’s International or the Rush City Baptist Church.
