Joyce Hansen of RushCity passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 22, 2014 at the FairviewLakesMedicalCenter in Wyoming at the age of 84.
Joyce was born to Fred West. & Florence Viola (McEnaney) Dickey on June 3, 1930 on a farm near Woodstock, Minnesota in PipestoneCounty. She was the seventh of nine children: Freda, Frances, Edith, Ruby, Gene, Vernon, Joyce, Betty and Shirley.
Joyce married Richard Nicholas Hansen on January 21, 1949.
They farmed several years near Woodstock, Minnesota and then they moved to Roseville, Michigan for eight years. They returned to Minnesota on a farm near Braham, Minnesota and bought and operated the Stark Store for several years. In 1989 they moved to Rush City, Minnesota and have lived there since.
Joyce attended country school near Woodstock and she only had the privilege of finishing the tenth grade, although later in life, while she was in her fifties she studied and took her G.E.D. test. Joyce had the highest score in two years.
Joyce was a very loving, caring woman who enjoyed doing crafts, cooking, and caring for her children. She also took in several foster children as she had such a loving heart and always wanted to give to others. She also did volunteer work at the church and the senior dining site, and was always ready to serve others.
Joyce will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her husband Richard Hansen, children: Laurie (Larry) Gebert of Rush City, Robert Paul Hansen of East Bethel, Luanne Elaine Hansen Hochstatter of Isanti; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; sisters: Frances Adams of California, Shirley DeBates of Jasper, MN, Betty DeShepperd of Jasper, MN, Ruby Hansen of Des Moines, IA; many foster children including: Eddie Lee, Marion Adams, Jerrie Anderson, Cindy, Mary and Bill Hanson.
She is preceded in death by her parents Fred & Florence (McEnaney) Dickey, children: Lennis Dean Hansen, Richard Lee Hansen, Kathleen Joyce Hansen, Carol Jean Hansen; grandson Michael Gordon Gebert, siblings: Freda Tearhark, Edith Marguardsen, Gene Wittrock, Vernon Dickey.
Reverend Dan Olson will officiate the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27th at the Siloa Lutheran Church in Day. Visitation will take place on Friday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Olson Funeral Chapel and one hour prior at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
