Richard A. Wilcox was born in Hibbing, Minnesota, February 25, 1936 to the parents of Evelyn Little (Vaughn) and Alonzo Wilcox. He was raised in West Rock, Pine City and Rush City. He graduated from Rush City High School in 1953. He then joined the Navy in 1954 and continued on for a career of twenty years. He continued working at the Office of Personnel Management at the Pentagon. He moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and retired in 1989 from General Electric.
Dick met the love of his life, and soul mate, Julie Schmidt in 2001. They were married April 5, 2004. He loved being the jokester and making people laugh. He was a rescuer of all in distress and enjoyed every minute of it! He was a kind, loving and giving man. Dick had such a happy heart.
It was an honor to know Dick and be a part of his life. He had many friends, was liked by all and will be missed. He was a beloved husband, wonderful dad and grampa.
He was a longtime member of the Rush City Eagles.
Dick is survived by his wife Julie, step children Chelsi (Joseph) Bowe of England, Brett Wolfgram (Trista Sarago) of Rush City, grandchildren Izabelle and Jullia Bowe, his half brother Donald (Sandy) Vaughn of Rush City, father-in-law Raymond Schmidt of Florida, good friend John Stabenau, sisters-in-law and brothers-in law: Vicky (Mark) Gjerde of Rush City, Cindy Pinder of Blaine, Gary (Terri) Schmidt of Hastings, Mike Schmidt of Hastings, Teresa (Bob) Benson of North Branch, Laurie Schmidt of Harris and many nieces and nephews.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents Alonzo Wilcox, Evelyn & Kenny Vaughn, sister Marlyce (Roger) Christensen and his mother-in-law Delores Schmidt.
Rev. Laurie O'Shea will officiate at a funeral service for Dick; 10:30 a.m. Wednesday February 11, 2015 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City with a time of visitation and reviewal Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the Olson Funeral Chapel and also one hour prior on Wednesday at the church.
The interment will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota with military honors at 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Assembly Area #2.
