Ray G. Anderson

Raymond G. Anderson, age 77, passed way after his battle with cancer on Sunday, January 25, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona. Raymond was born to Bert and Cora Anderson November 25, 1937 in Montevideo, Minnesota. He only attended MontevideoElementary School, he worked from the age of 16 until he joined the United States Navy in 1960 at the age of 22.  On September 26, 1962 he married Shirley Bobzin in Gilbert, Minnesota and went back to finish his duties with the Navy.  He patrolled off the coast of Vietnam, Good Will tours off of Italy and Malta, he did a presentation for JFK right after he became president. He was honorably discharged in 1966. After the Navy Raymond and Shirley with their four small children resided in Circle Pines, Minnesota and worked for the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant in New Brighton, Minnesota where he worked many years as a machinist. In 1974 he moved his family to Rush City, Minnesota where he was self employed with A & A Contracting, from there he worked for Land O' Lakes Feed Mill in Rock Creek, Minnesota for many years until they closed.  He then started working at Dexon in Rush City, Minnesota for many years.  He was a jack of all trades! Raymond enjoyed many things like camping, fishing, hunting, making wood working projects, singing karaoke, playing guitar, spending time with family and friends. Cooking at the American Legion in PineCity with Rose Hopkins, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and he loved to travel. Raymond was the Commander of the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post #93 in Rush City, Minnesota from  1982 - 1983 and was also the Commander of the Heath-Perkins American Legion Post #51 in Pine City, Minnesota from 2000 - 2001. He was a lifetime member of both organizations. Raymond had his tissue donated to Generation US in Phoenix, Arizona. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Bert & Cora Anderson, step-father Michael Mannion, brothers Delos & Darold Anderson, nephews: Dale Anderson and Clinton Kaska; nieces: Jolene Anderson and Cindy Foley; grandparents Lawrence & Hattie Erickson, Edwin & Anna Anderson; father & mother-in-law Henry & Alice Bobzin, brother-in-law Paul Kaska and long time companion Rose Hopkins. He is survived by his former wife Shirley (Bobzin) Anderson of Rush City, daughters: Wendy Fehrman of Rush City, Cora (Darwin) Weidendorf of Rush City, sons: Gordon Anderson of Rush City, Aaron Anderson of Wisconsin; grandchildren: Joseph (Betsy) Fehrman of Grantsburg, Sherri (Trevor Massey) Fehrman of Osceola, Alan & Angeleah Weidendorf of Rush City; great grandchildren: Cameron & Hazel Massey of Osceola; brothers Ronald (Karen) Anderson of Mora, Butch (Lois) Anderson of Pine City; sisters: Darlene Kaska of Gilbert, Rebecca Mannion of Pine City; brother-in-law Gerald Bobzin of Cambridge; many nieces & nephews, cousins, friends, and friend Beverly Winchell of Mesa, Arizona. Reverend Laurie O'Shea will officiate at the memorial service; 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of RushCity.  A time of visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 4-8:00 p.m. also at the church.  Interment will be at FortSnellingNationalCemetery in Minneapolis with immediate family only.
