John Rudolph Plasek

August 30, 1933 — March 29, 2015

John Rudolph Plasek was born August 30, 1933 in Beroun, MN to Rudolph and Anna (Stech) Plasek. He was the youngest of 3 children. John was born and raised on the family farm until entering the US army in 1951 and serving until 1953. He would then work for the railroad and on the family farm. In 1958 he married the love of his life Margaret (Fix) and would later purchase the original Plasek family farm from his parents in 1960. John and Margaret built a wonderful life together raising their 4 daughters and 6 sons on the farm located east of Beroun. You could always find John working hard in the barn or in the fields. John was also an amazing self-taught mechanic. He would do most of his own farm equipment repairs and any carpentry, plumbing, or welding needed on the farm. He taught his children many things through his loving, caring and patient ways. Most of all, he taught them the ethics of hard work by example while cutting firewood, making hay, grinding his own feed, butchering, etc. Along with running the family farm he worked for the ASCS office as a field surveyor, and Gambles Home Improvement doing a wide range of repairs and construction in the surrounding area. John was a dairy farmer until 1994, when he changed over to raising beef. John and Margaret retired from farming in 2002 and moved to a townhome in Pine City. John was a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Beroun where he served on the board of trustees for several years. The Church and his faith were very important to John. He was very involved in parish activities, including leading the rosary. After retiring from dairy farming, John and Margaret would attend daily mass whenever possible. John also served on the Mission Creek Town Board for many years. After his retirement, John volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to Hinckley, Grasston, and Pine City. John was always willing to help others in need, rarely accepting anything in return. John enjoyed hunting and fishing. His favorite fishing was during his many fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. John’s favorite deer hunting was with the large hunting party made up of his sons, nephews, and friends. John taught some of his grandsons to hunt deer, sitting with them in the stand their first year. One of his last adventures was to fly in a small private plane around the Pine City area with his grandson as pilot. John died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming at the age of 81 years.
