James Frederick West of Rush City, MN passed away unexpectedly Monday March 30, 2015 at his family farm in Rush Point, MN.
Jim was born November 24, 1937 in Nessel township to Arnold and Anna (Wing) West. At the age of three Jim's father passed away. Jim was then blessed with a wonderful stepfather, Bill Hellstrom, who passed away the summer Jim graduated from high school in 1955.
Jim attended the local country school, District 24 and graduated from Rush City High School. He stayed at home and worked the family farm until entering the U. S. Army in December of 1960. After his discharge in 1962, Jim returned home to farm and eventually start a dedicated 30 year career for his brother-in-law Harold Lind, working for Lind Plumbing and Heating.
August 24, 1968, Jim and Patricia Ann Walton were united in marriage at the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church at Rush Point.
Jim enjoyed watching most sports, gardening with Pat, four wheeling around the farm and taking pride in his yard. He was well known for his sense of humor. His love was to watch his grandchildren grow up and mature! He looked forward to going to California to visit Carter, Cole, Jenn and John and spoiling his only granddaughter Elizabeth. He was also very proud of Hunter's achievement certificates for snowmobiling, and four wheeling and his first deer this past season.
Jim is survived by his wife Pat, daughter Jennifer (John) Powell of California, son Jason (Patti) West of Rush City, grandchildren Elizabeth, Hunter, Carter, Cole, James, his sisters Sylvia (Mike) Hudak of Pine City, Val Jean Christensen of Harris, Glennys (Dean) Halberg of AZ, Yvonne Lind of Rush City, Carolyn Sundvall of WA. and many nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his father Arnold West, mother Anna Hellstrom, step father Bill Hellstrom, brother David Hellstrom, brothers-in-law Harold Lind, Don Christensen, Jim Sundvall, best friend Quinton Waxberg and many beloved family and friends.
Rev. Keith Kolzow will officiate at Jim's memorial service: 11:00 am Friday (April 10, 2015) with a time of visitation one hour prior at the Calvary Lutheran Church at Rush Point.
